Detailed Explanation Of the Material Properties Of Common Plastic Pipes And Metal Pipes

272

At present, there are various types of pipe products used in the market, such as HDPE pipes, steel mesh skeleton pipes, PVC pipes, PPR pipes, etc. Different pipe materials have different properties. When designing a pipeline project, the pipeline should be selected according to the purpose of the project, installation environment, temperature, pressure, etc.

Plastic Pipes

1. HDPE Pipe

  • Uses: HDPE pipes are widely used as water supply pipes, fire pipes, drainage pipes, power communication pipes, irrigation pipes, aquaculture pipes, etc.
  • Type: According to their density, they are divided into high-density polyethylene pipes (HDPE), medium-density polyethylene pipes (MDPE) and low-density polyethylene pipes (LDPE).
  • Features: HDPE pipe has high strength and rigidity, good elongation, good impact resistance, good chemical stability and high frequency insulation resistance.
  • Connection method: electric hot-melt connection, hot-melt butt connection, flange or screw thread connection, etc.

2.PE100-RT Pipe

  • Uses: Indoor cold and hot water pipes, especially hot water systems. Ideal for radiant heating applications.
  • Advantages: excellent temperature resistance, the use is -70 ℃ ~ 90 ℃; excellent heat insulation performance, low thermal conductivity; long service life, can be used safely for more than 50 years; chemical resistance and corrosion resistance; good recovery shape Memory performance; anti-vibration, impact resistance; excellent hydraulic properties.
  • Disadvantages: cannot be recycled; the overhead span of the pipeline is small, and there are many supporting parts installed; due to the influence of complex conditions such as cross operations during the construction process, the PE-RT pipe is easy to be punctured, and the reserved pipe end is flattened, etc., resulting in multiple There are many repairs and reworks.
  • Connection methods: three categories: thermal fusion connectors, electrofusion connectors and mechanical connectors.

3. PVC Pipe

  • Uses: used for water supply (non-drinking water), drainage pipes, rainwater pipes, power cable sheathing pipes
  • Type: According to different materials, it can be divided into UPVC, CPVC, OPVC Pipe
  • Advantages: corrosion resistance, smooth inner wall, not easy to scale, good hydraulic conditions, light weight, easy installation, not easy to age, low heat resistance, hard texture, cheap, easy to bond, flame retardant. It has the best temperature resistance, good anti-aging performance, and good flame retardant performance.
  • Disadvantages: high price. No impact resistance, poor durability, high technical requirements for joint bonding, and long curing time.
  • Connection method: socket bonding, plastic welding, flange connection of special fittings, thread connection.

4. PPR Pipe

  • Uses: Mainly used in domestic cold and hot water supply and ground radiant heating.
  • Advantages: Good temperature resistance, recyclable, green and environmental protection products, good hygienic performance, suitable for pure water transportation.
  • Disadvantages: Under the same pressure and medium temperature, the pipe wall is thick and flammable.
  • Connection method: There are mainly electric hot melt, hot melt butt joints, as well as flange connections and threaded connections for special accessories.

5. PE-X Pipe

  • Uses: Mainly used for building indoor cold and hot water supply and ground radiant heating.
  • Type: Cross-linked polyethylene pipe PEX pipe generally has three types: a, b, and c. PE-Xa pipes are used for hot and cold water pipelines, petroleum pipelines, oil tanks, chemical pipelines, etc.; PE-Xb pipes are used for floor heating pipes (toxic and out of the market); PE-Xc pipes are currently the most environmentally friendly floor heating pipes.
  • Advantages: good temperature resistance, good creep resistance, good memory, easy to correct.
  • Disadvantages: It can only be connected with metal parts, and cannot be recycled and reused.
  • Connection method: ferrule type of special metal connector, clamp type connection and screw connection.

6. ABS Pipe

  • Uses: In foreign countries, it is often used as sanitary ware sewer pipes, gas pipes, and highly corrosive industrial pipes. In China, it is generally used for indoor cold and hot water pipes, dosing pipes for water treatment, and corrosive industrial pipes.
  • Advantages: high strength, impact resistance, direct threading, good hygienic performance, suitable for pure water transportation.
  • Disadvantages: longer bonding and curing time, flammable.
  • Connection method: There are mainly socket connections, as well as flange connections and thread connections for special accessories.

Metal Pipe

1. Galvanized Steel Pipe (Hot Dipped)

  • Uses: fire protection systems and production water supply pipes with pipe diameters less than and equal to 150mm.
  • Advantages: high strength, convenient interface, high internal pressure, smooth inner surface, good hydraulic conditions.
  • Disadvantages: easy to corrode, high cost.
  • Connection method: threaded connection, flange connection.

2. Ordinary Steel Pipe

  • Uses: production and fire water supply pipes, sanitary appliance drainage branch pipes and non-corrosive productive drainage branch pipes for production equipment, industrial plant rainwater pipes.
  • Advantages: high strength, convenient interface, high internal pressure, smooth inner surface, good hydraulic conditions.
  • Disadvantages: easy to corrode, high cost. Connection method: welding, flange connection.

3. Stainless Steel Pipe

  • Uses: transport pure water, corrosive production sewage.
  • Advantages: corrosion resistance, impermeability, good airtight parts, smooth inner wall, light weight, easy installation, high pressure resistance and vibration resistance.
  • Disadvantages: not easy to construct, expensive.
  • Connection method: compression type, compression type, push type (flexible type), taper thread type, quick connection flange type, flange type, screw connection type, socket type.

4. Cast Iron Pipe

  • Uses: mostly used in pipeline projects such as water supply, drainage and gas.
  • Advantages: high strength, good toughness, thin wall, light weight, impact resistance, large bending function, easy installation.
  • Disadvantages: Aging, large thermal expansion and cold contraction, not suitable for long-term exposure to sunlight, poor compression resistance, and improper construction can easily cause deformation.
  • Connection method: flexible interface, flange interface, self-anchor interface, rigid interface.
